Is your kid a Sproutlet? Fun Recipes for Kids!

Elmo Funny Faced Pizza

Ingredients

1 - 4oz. whole wheat bagel, cut in half

Tomato sauce

1/3 cup shredded low-fat mozzarella cheese

1/3 cup shredded low-fat cheddar cheese

Sliced black olives and an orange pepper to decorate Elmo’s face

Supplies

Cookie sheet

Butter knife

Directions

Preheat oven to low heat (250 degrees).

Spread tomato sauce onto each half of the bagel and place on cookie sheet.

Encourage children to help sprinkle the mozzarella cheese onto the bagel to make two eyes and the cheddar cheese to make a mouth.

Place two sliced olives in the mozzarella cheese to complete the eyes. Place a nose onto each bagel using thin slices of an orange pepper.

Bake for 5 to 8 minutes. Remove from oven when the cheese is bubbly.

*Remember to keep children away from hot ovens and sharp cooking utensils. Parents handle the hot stuff, but preschoolers will be able to help spread the cheese and decorate Elmo’s face!

Angelina Ballet Slippers

Ingredients

1 red pepper, cut in half with seeds removed

1⁄2 cup quick cook brown rice

1⁄2 cup vegetable stock

1 cup canned mixed vegetables, no added salt

1⁄4 tsp. black pepper

1 tsp. chopped fresh parsley

1 tsp. extra virgin olive oil

1 lemon

Decorative cabbage

1⁄4 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided

Supplies

Measuring cups and spoons

Cutting board & knife

Cooking pot

Small cooking pot

Mixing spoons

Slotted spoon

High-sided baking dish

Pastry brush

Large serving plate

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Fill a pot large enough to hold pepper halves with water and bring to a boil (don’t add peppers yet).

In a smaller, separate pot, cook brown rice in vegetable broth according to package directions, about 5 minutes.

Meanwhile, blanch red pepper halves in boiling water for 3 minutes. Remove with slotted spoon and place into a high-sided baking dish.

Stir mixed vegetables into prepared brown rice. Season with pepper and parsley.

Spoon rice mixture into each pepper half. Brush tops lightly with olive oil, squeeze lemon to taste and sprinkle with grated cheese (approx. 2 tbsp. cheese per pepper).

Place baking dish into oven and cook until the peppers are soft and the cheese is melted and golden, about 35 minutes.

Transfer the peppers onto a large plate and put the cabbage on top in a criss-crossed pattern to look like the laces on a ballet shoe.

Barney Purple Hummus Dip

Ingredients

15 oz. can garbanzo beans, drained (keep the liquid)

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 tsp. ground cumin

1/2 tsp. black pepper

Salt to taste

2 tbsp. of lemon juice

1 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil

1 can of beets (only the juice will be used)

Supplies

Variety of raw vegetables, cut for dipping (carrots, celery, broccoli, etc)

1 package of pita bread

Measuring spoons

Food processor

Mixing bowl

Mixing spoon

Serving plate

Directions

Combine garbanzo beans, garlic, cumin, salt, pepper, lemon juice and olive oil into a mixing bowl.

Put the contents of the bowl into the food processor and blend on low speed, gradually adding about 1/2 cup beet juice and 1/4 cup of reserved garbanzo bean liquid, until the desired consistency is achieved.

Cut vegetables and pita bread into bite-sized pieces, arrange on a plate and serve along with the hummus

Our Favorite Roadtrip & Tips for Travel

Our Favorite Road Trip had to be when my now 4 year old son, at the time, 3 years old, and I went to Connecticut for my cousin Nikki’s Wedding. We were supposed to leave at 8am to drive the 3 hour drive to the ceremony and reception. Well come to find out, there was to be a parade that day, and our major route was going to be blocked from 9am-12 noon! Yikes!

Well, That didn’t stop us! Jacob went to bed at about 10pm. He was just getting used to his new toddler bed at the time. I had gone to bed reasonably early as well that night since well, I had a 3 hour drive in the morning. 4:30am, I wake up to Jacob crying. I’m not sure how he had done it, since his bed had slightly elevated sides, but he fell out of the bed. But, then he didn’t want to go back to bed, and it’s almost 5am at that point so I decide, GUESS WHAT?!?! We are leaving for Connecticut now!

This isn't from our CT trip, but it's from
one of our many car trips!

We packed up the rest of the car by 5:30am and off we went. However, this didn’t go without a snafu of course. Jacob falls asleep in the car about 10 minutes down 495 South. This was great, I set cruise control at 65 MPH, turned the radio up a little bit, and watched the sun rise, while there was no traffic on a brisk morning. Then we get on the Mass Pike. This was the first trouble.

Just after the rest area, with no more stops or exits for 20 miles, Jacob wakes up, “Mommy, I gotta go potty!” So, he pee’d in the bushes on the Mass Pike. No bathrooms for 20 miles, we didn’t have a choice. We get back in the car, and he falls back asleep. Next rest area, we need gas, and Jacob’s still asleep. We pull in, and I search and search, only to find, I forgot my debit card at the house, and all I had was cash, with a sleeping 3 year old in the car. Luckily, the lady inside was nice enough to come out to the car to take the cash from me so I didn’t have to wake him up. Thank God for the “Help please” Button!

Finally, after that we get into Connecticut. I turn on my GPS, and it will not find signal! Nor, can I find the mapquest I had printed just in case. Which turns out I left on the Kitchen Table. So, we get lost. We stop for a 2nd breakfast and to pee, and finally figure out where we are going. Just before the major route closes for that parade. That was pure luck!
We ended up being on time, (yes, for one of the first times in my life, I was ON TIME!)
Moral of the Story? (And, My tips for traveling!)

Well, Always stop to pee, especially if there’s 20 miles between exits.

Always double check that you have all your forms of payment,

and last but not least, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR DIRECTIONS!

Plus, the basics...Keep up on car matinance, check your oil, proper tire inflation, emergency roadside kit in trunk. All those are great tips for travel, and are proper safety guidelines to follow.

Happy Thanksgiving, and Have safe traveling Holidays this year!

Tommee Tippee Review and *Giveaway*

If you have been a follower for a while, that you must know that I have reviewed Tommee Tippee items before. If you’re a new follower, welcome to my reviews. When I reviewed Tommee Tippee before, both my son and I absolutely LOVED them.

Photobucket

So, when it came time to do solids, they are the first company I contacted. They are space saving, spill proof, and brightly colored. Matthew likes that he can chew on them and they are soft enough that it wont hurt him.

All 2 Review

We received the Tommee Tippee Truly spill proof sippy cups, explora bowls with spoon, and the feeding pots. These are all really great items, and wouldn’t trade any of them for any other thing!

The Cup:

PhotobucketSpill ProofNo Spill Cuppy

The cup has a soft spout, and 2 handles to help him hold it. It truly is spill proof. I tested this myself by holding it upside down, and not a drop came out.

The Feeding Pots:

Feeding pots

I make most of Matthews baby food fresh. However, I can’t stand using the ice cube trays. These feeding pots can be microwaved, frozen, and put in the dishwasher. These are the perfect size for 1 portion for Matthew. Plus, I can feed him right out of them which makes less mess!

The Explora Bowl:

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

The bowl is a great size, not just for Matthew, but also for older younger children. My cousin Kaity is 4 and used this bowl for her cereal and it was a perfect size. We love this bowl for traveling because of the snap on lid, and the special snap tight space for the tip of the spoon. If we have no place to clean up, we just close it all up, and can clean it when we get home. This is our favorite bowl, and Matthew loves the soft tip of the spoon for his teething mouth.

The cost at Babies R Us for each as follows:

Explora Bowl & Spoon 2pk: $5.49
2 Pack Sippy Cups: $7.99
4 pack feeding pots: $4.99

Tommee Tippee is going to graciously send one of my lucky readers, what you have read about today! That’s an $18.47 Value!!

An Apology, A Valid Excuse, A Contest, and upcoming giveaways!

So, I have been slacking over the past week or so. I have been really sick, and to the point that just taking care of the baby is exhausting me, let alone doing anything else...i.e. Blogging.

What is happening is my liver isn't processing like it should be, or well much at all for that matter. I feel like crap. I can only eat small portions, through out the day until I'm just "not hungray" anymore, which is usually after 2-3 bites. I am always so sick to my stomach. So, this is my valid excuse for not keeping up with everything.

I have found a few minutes to enter another photo contest, it would be great for us to win this, so Jacob could get this prize for Christmas. I think being 4 years old, he would LOVE to get this.

If you could or would take a few minutes just to click the link below and do the following:

"Like" bounce houses now on Facebook, (or you can't like the photo)
then "Like" our Holiday Photo. Comments do not count as votes, only the "likes" are votes. If you can do this for me, you can have 5 extra entries into our upcoming giveaways, which are:

$25 Gift card to Mother of a Sale
Tommee Tippee Cups, bowls, and feeding pots
Baby Legs Grab bag
OR our current giveaway for a Grovia Diaper!

Here is the link below to vote:

Please comment here with your facebook name (or names if your spouse votes too) that you voted with so you can get your extra entries.

Wish Your Life Was Easier? Here’s How!!!

Do you wish your life was a piece of Cake? Do you wish that world was perfect? Do you wish that everything would go your way?
Well, Good Luck! Everyone does…!
But, I am here to tell you that there is hope! I am ready to open up and tell you my secrets into making life easier! So, Let's get started…
  1. Think Positively: That has to be the most important rule in life. When it rains it pours, everyone knows that. But as long as you keep your head up, you'll be okay. Positive thinking increases your chances of thinking before acting. Thinking before taking action can make a big difference into the path you will choose, and change the chain of concurrent events that will subsequently happen as a result.
  2. Organization: Having an organized life is a happy life. A happy life is a good life. Try to organize your week, the week before. Make a family Calendar. Have a different color code for every family member, and have the calendar posted for all to see. Include appointments, practices, school events, work meetings, ECT. Then along with that, make a meal plan for the week. If you share the responsibility of cooking, make sure you include the other "cook" of the house in this plan. If possible, make a few frozen portioned dinners for the unexpected changes that happen. Which you know will happen, because why? It's life.
  3. Attention to detail: Pay attention to the small things in life. Cherish them, love them, change them, or hate them. It's your choice and you and only you can choose your destiny. Paying attention even if just slightly to the smallest detail will make a bigger difference later on down the road, but may seem insignificant right now.
  4. Comedy: Everyone loves a good laugh to lighten the mood, and make an unbearable task, well seem at least a little bit better. Finding enjoyment even in the stupidest or the boring things in life will help you to get through it, and conquer the task. Try buying a CD of a comedian to listen to while you are cooking, or doing dishes, or laundry. Too many people take life way more serious than they should, and do not see the little funny hints that life throws them, and it's sad. Those people are also the ones that do not think positively. I love comedy, and I try to incorporate a joke even in the worst of situations to try to make the situation better.
  5. Live life to the fullest: Always live life to the fullest extent. Without living life to the full extent that you are able, means that you are not living at all. It's okay to take jumps and leaps, but make sure they are practical to your situation. For Example, don't go out and buy a Great Dane just because you want one, if you live in a one bedroom apartment. So live life to the fullest, but be logical with your living J
  6. Lists: Create lists of things you need to do immediately, things you need to do in the future, and things you want to accomplish in your whole life. Then cross reference this list and narrow down when you want to accomplish these things. This will make your life easier in completing the tasks that you want to, or have to do.
  7. Give yourself time: Time is of the essence. Only time will tell, or allow you to realize what you do, or what you have done will change the chain of events in your life. If you have lost a loved one or ones like I have you understand that time heals the grief that you are feeling. I can give you a great example. Last November, my great grandfather died. I incorporated a little comedy into my grief. When I was about 12, I was in the elevator of his building with him. There was another woman in the elevator with us. He was in his late 80's and so wasn't the lady. When the lady got off at her floor, he looks at me and says, "She had a nice butt." Mind you, she was about 87 years old, (LOL). This made me laugh at a time that was sad in my life. Like I said, Time heals and time grows what it needs to in life.
  8. Try to simplify: Simplifying daily tasks will make your life so much easier! Try to accomplish all your errands in one trip (if possible), and don't detour. Procrastination is one of the famous downfalls of American citizens. We all procrastinate at one time or another, and sometimes it's good to do so, but mostly not.
  9. Love: Love is a little bit harder, but it makes your life easier. If you're not a millionaire, you need to work. To be happy, and have your life be easier, you need to love your job. You need to love the way your living, you need to love your home, and most importantly you need to LOVE your life. If you don't love your life then make some changes because most likely you're miserable.
  10. Be yourself: I always try to be myself. I change it, if needed, but other than that I am who I am. I am a mom, a human being, a wife, a daughter, a lover, a sister. Someone who likes organized events, and comedy. I am me. If you cannot be yourself your making your life harder because its harder to try to be someone your not.

Stop and smell the roses once in a while. Take some time to enjoy who you are, and where you are in your life. Don't ever let anyone rain on your parade, after all it is your parade! Love who you are, and where you are at. Organize your life, especially if it's complicated. Time will tell. Simplifying will help. These are my suggestions, and tips for an easier life. You may have your own opinion that differs from mine. But I am me. Be Happy. Do what you feel is right. Pay attention to even the smallest of details, it may help you down the road. I hope what I have said will help your life be easier in the long run. Give it sometime, everything gets better, and if you get knocked down, stand back up on your feet and dust yourself off. We are only human, and we make mistakes. Don't hold grudges, thus makes life more difficult.
Live, Laugh, Love.

10 Holiday Survival Tips- Will You Survive This Holiday Season?

I LOVE the holidays. Who doesn't? Yummy food, presents, family, friends. Ya right! Who am I kidding? The holidays are a nightmare! Traffic, rude shoppers, ungreatful people, the exhaustion, and the list continues.

But, Here are my 10 tips for surviving, I hope they help you too!

10. Make sure the relatives are entertained: Don’t you just hate when you have your relatives or in-laws hanging out in the kitchen while YOU are trying to cook. They share how THEY would do it, or how they think YOU should do it. This is your holiday meal; you cook it how you want to.

9. Shopping with coupons and during sales: Saving money is good. Try to get your shopping do as soon as possible. Hit a sale at Bed, Bath, and Beyond during a sale (I still want that remote, lol!) and take one of their 20% off coupons with you! You can surely find a gift for someone on your list there. Plus, they get a great gift, and you don’t have to spend a fortune!

8. Photo greeting cards: Photo greeting cards are a 2 for 1 deal. Everyone has a family member that is always asking for photos of the kids, and/or family. So, you get to send out your usual holiday cards, plus the photo on it, and everyone gets the photo too! Tiny Prints has a great selection of Christmas Cards!*

7. More than one Christmas: At one point or another, either you as a child or you with your kids have done it. You throw the kids in the car and visit all the family members at each of their houses. Make it easier on yourself and the kids. All you need to do is plan 2 or 3 smaller trips on different days rather than one. Less crankiness on a holiday = Good!

6. Make clean up a breeze: obviously or well at least hopefully you have a good idea of whose coming for dinner. Create a list for everyone to help with clean up. For example, one person washes dishes, one person makes take home plates, ect.

5. Take a break: Everything can be so overwhelming, especially if you are the host/hostess. Take a sanity break. Hide in your room. Go for a walk. Have “me” time.

4. Yankee Swap: Yankee swaps are a great idea if there are a lot of kids in the family. Just make sure they are gender neutral. This makes less fuss if a boy is unhappy with a Barbie doll.

3. Start early: If you are hosting dinner for a holiday, start it early. Have your guests arrive at noontime instead of 4pm. You always have that lingering relative who stays until all hours of the night. Starting it early will hopefully have them out by 10! 

2. Organize your emails: Most invites now a days are not in the form of a card in an envelope. They are electronic through email. Make a special folder named “Holiday Correspondence” to keep all the details for the holidays in. Who’s coming, who’s not coming, who is bringing desert, who is bringing a new boyfriend or girlfriend, ect. So, there is no confusion and you can go back and look up what everyone said if you forget. Thus, making it go smooth, well as smooth as a family event can go.

1. Enjoy: Enjoy it, after all the holidays only come once a year!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Let's Just Give It Away

It's OK to follow... it's the Weekend

Working out of the Home...Day 1

Well today is basically my first day working away from home. I already miss being the SAHM. :-(
I have a few applications into some nursing homes for 11-7 shift, because I am up all night anyways. But I think I am addicted to blogging because I am "mobile blogging" right now at 6:57pm lol

I was syked when the pizza place I worked for before Matthew was born, called today and asked me if I could come in to work. My first thought was, boys christmas presents, now my thought is, I want to be home snuggling with my lil monster...:(

I'll actually have a somewhat useful instead of the whiny and I miss being home post when I get home tonight...

Matthews Birthday, Need some ideas! Come and Contribute!

So, I am starting now to plan for Matthews Birthday event.

Matthew will be 1 year old on January 29th :) I can't believe a year has gone by already!

So, in honor of his birthday, I want to do something awesome!

Let's make this a good one! Please suggest things that you would like to see reviewed and/or as a giveaway but we need to make it reasonable. Also I would like suggestions on a length for it. I was thinking maybe January 20th to February 10th. That would be 21 days, so I would be looking to do 10-15 Reviews and giveaways.

I have contacted a sponser as of now. Yes, I know Only ONE, I am slacking!

But I have contacted a few people about Wilton (for baking things) and can't wait to see how it goes! I will keep you updated!

Grovia All In One Cloth Diaper Review and *Giveaway*

Have you ever heard of the Cloth Diaper Store, Thanks Mama? If you have, great! If not, well you will now! Thanks Mama is an online cloth diaper retailer with large selections of the great modern cloth! As I am sure you know if you have been a follower of mine for a while, I guest blog once a month for them on the Thanks Mama Blog.

Thank you to Thanks Mama for providing me with a Grovia All in One Cloth Diaper for this review!

Matthew is an active, 9 ½ month old boy. He crawls, rolls, stands, sits, and even falls, just like any other baby. I wanted to review the Grovia AIO because, well, I have read some great reviews!

Arrived

My Thoughts
(The Review)

I had the option of color and I chose Ice, it’s a more boyish color. One thing that I do not like is that currently, the Grovia AIO only comes in 3 colors, one boyish, one girlish, and one neutral. However, their colors are different from any other cloth diaper company around.

Folds up small

The material on this diaper is super soft and non-irritating to my son’s skin. You know how sometimes, depending on the brand of diaper, it will leave the red mark from the elastic being too tight? Well, we didn’t have a problem with that while he was wearing it.

Good Fit

The side tabs that the front snaps on to, is also a lot stretchier than other diapers, which is great for his crawling. I am proud to say that we had NO leaks when using this Grovia AIO. The snaps also hold up strong and stay snapped, until you unsnap them. Matthew could not pull these snaps apart. Trust me, I let him try to!

The AIO piece is sewn directly in, but there is(see the green arrow in the Picture below)an additional snap in soaker for extra absorbency. Since he is a heavy wetter at night, we could never use this as an overnight diaper. I would not recommend this to a friend who has a heavy wetter for night time use. But daytime, when there is less time between changes it works great for us.

Snap in soaker

The Grovia AIO is a OS which means its rise is for an “average” baby. So, on Matthew it seems a little short, but it still works awesome.

Chunky Legs

The side snapping is also kind of awkward, especially if your baby rolls or tries to roll over during changes. You need two hands to snap the snaps, which prevents you from holding the baby to keep him/her from rolling.

Photobucket

So, after reading my thoughts, I will leave the decision up to you. Do you want a Grovia All-in-one diaper for your baby? Do you want a Grovia Diaper for a Mother to be? Do you just want a Grovia Diaper?

Crawling

Or, Will you just crawl away???

Well, You could buy it here from the Thanks Mama Store for $21.95

So, you have a Holiday card dilemma? Shutterfly is your answer!

I absolutely LOVE Shutterfly. Their designs are magnificent, and elegant. They have designs for all occasions. Specifically, their Christmas collection is one two words…SIMPLY AMAZING! There are so many layouts, colors and designs to choose from. This is going to make it hard for us to choose our Christmas cards. I love designs that opt for multiple photos, but keep the elegance.

I always go for Holiday photo cards that are folded, so I can write on the inside. To me, it feels more personal than having the card just mass sent to everyone. That's not so personal. You want your card recipients to feel special and thought of during this holiday time.

Photobucket

Photobucket

We recently had holiday/family photos done, and they came out good great! I want to incorporate those into whichever card we end up choosing. I found these two first, now one is a folded card, and the other is not. I had my husband say he liked the green one better. However, I can't take his vote because green is his favorite color, and if he had it his way, we would just use a piece of colored on construction paper as Christmas cards because they are not at the top of his list. (lol, probably not, but he wouldn't take the time and effort that I do to have Christmas cards.)

So, I personalized one that I liked just for an example here, and I think it's pretty good, but I am still going to play around with it more. There are so many colors, and templates, and designs to choose from, I am glad I started worrying about our Christmas cards early! lol.

Photobucket

While I am at it, I might just go look at their selection of Christmas party invitations! I would love to have a great well thought out, and planned christmas party this year!

Happy Holidays!

Disclaimer: This blog post is written by me, in 100% my opinion of Shutterfly's Christmas/Holiday Collection. I am writing my 100% opinion so I may recieve 50 Free Greeting cards for this holiday season. Are you a Blogger? If you are, would you like 50 Free Greeting cards from Shutterfly? If you answered yes to both, please click here for more details!
